Paris, Lisbon, Comporta

A French family first fell in love with Comporta and, later, with Lisbon. From this double affection grew the desire to combine the two worlds — bringing to the city the lightness, luminosity and informality of Comporta. They chose an apartment in the centre of Lisbon, where the outdoor space unfolds into generous living areas, including a swimming pool with panoramic views over the city. Interior and exterior were conceived with the same care and dignity, in a harmonious dialogue of materials and forms, carefully adapted to the urban context.
The living room is organised around two distinct convivial areas: one oriented towards the television, the other centred around the fireplace — two focal points that respond to different rhythms of use. The Edo sofa by Arflex subtly defines these two environments, serving not only as a functional element but also as a sculptural presence in the space. The composition gains depth with the Goa rug by Van Ghent, whose macro hemp texture spans almost the entire room, giving it unity and material richness.
Natural oak was the material of choice and takes on a leading role throughout the house, lending it continuity, warmth and texture. From its tones emerged a soft, warm palette that tempers Lisbon’s bright light and softens even the coldest, hardest materials. Complementing this palette are off-white walls, natural stone and unglazed terracotta tiles — a subtle evocation of Comporta’s earthy tones, here reinterpreted with a modernist language of clean lines and formal precision.
Harmonising all spaces — assigning to each the colours and materials suited to its function and atmosphere — is one of the distinctive skills of Rita Andringa, creative director of Andringa Studio. The result is a subtle, cohesive unity, best perceived when viewed with some distance, like a painting that reveals its balance only when seen in perspective. The Rato apartment is a clear example of this approach — one of the studio’s most recent completed works.
